Laser Dentistry
For patients who do not look forward to needles, drilling, or numbness, our Laser Dentistry services are for you.
To treat periodontal disease, Dr. Veys uses a soft tissue laser to remove bacterial infection from above and below the gum line to help soft tissue heal. The laser is Inserted between your teeth and gums, and only diseased tissue is removed; healthy tissue remains unharmed. In addition, the laser seals blood vessels as it removes damaged tissue, so there is less bleeding during and after treatment.
Lasers are a non-surgical approach to slowing the progression of periodontal disease. Following scaling and root planing, a laser can be used to reduce the bacterial colonies and decontaminate the infected periodontal pocket along with removing infected tissue. As the infected tissue is removed, microscopic blood clots form and your body’s natural healing response takes with the tissue reattaching to the bone. This helps your gums return to a healthy pre-infection and infection-free state.
Laser dentistry is at the forefront of dentistry’s latest advances. The laser delivers energy in the form of light. Depending on the intended result, this energy travels at different wavelengths and is absorbed by a “target”. In dentistry, these targets can be enamel, decay, gum tissue, or whitening enhancers. Each one absorbs a different wavelength of light while reflecting others. Laser dentistry can be used for both tooth and soft tissue-related procedures. Oftentimes no local anesthesia is required. Unlike with the dental drill, with laser dentistry there is no heat or vibration, making the procedure quite comfortable for most patients. For soft tissue (surgical) procedures it eliminates the need for suturing and healing is much faster.
Lasers can be used to diagnose cavities. They can find hidden decay in teeth in early stages, and in some cases the decay can be reversed through hygiene and fluoride treatment and reducing the need for filling.
Below are areas of your dental care that can benefit from laser technology:
- Cavity diagnosis and removal
- Curing, or hardening, bonding materials

- Periodontal, or gum related, dental care
- Pediatric procedures
- Canker sores (Apthous Ulcer treatment)
- Frenectomy (tongue-tie release) without anesthesia or sutures
